I enjoy painting and creating works of art. It allows me to relax and to express my emotions in a unique way. Painting has been a great stress-reliever for me during difficult times, and I love sharing my paintings as a testimony of what I have been through.
The story of how I began painting
At the age of 12, I did an art course at school. Our task was to draw a painting with oil colors, which I really enjoyed. My painting was abstract with lots of colors and also a pink dolphin. When I finished my painting, my teacher looked at it and said, “Do you want to paint another one?” as if mine was not the correct way to paint a painting. So I did another one with people and landscapes, similar to how a photograph would look.
And then I never painted again, because all the fun was gone.
In spite of my primary school experiences, I remained very fond of oil paintings. I collected them and hung them on my wall – and all of them were colorful and abstract.
One day (a couple of years ago), I came across a beautiful oil painting and tried to buy it. But it was already sold. I got irritated at this, but then I thought to myself, “Well, I’ll just go and buy paint and brushes and paint the picture myself…” And so I did.
The first painting took me two weeks because I was thinking back to the words of my teacher the entire time, and I was afraid if others would like it. But after the first one, the flow of creativity came with ease.
Painting replaced my worry with happiness!
I painted 30 paintings in a month and I loved it. My painting sessions were like meditations to me, and all the stress and worry were replaced by ease and happiness.
So don’t let others take away your passions even though they don’t always fits into a certain frame. Believe in yourself and follow your passions.
